Animal Studies

The Silhouette Studies reflect my interest in the shapes and edges of things around us. Through these studies, I explore the nature of our awareness of those things we

notice, but exist at the periphery of our vision -- that quick glimpse of forms which seem to be flat shapes but read we as dimensional forms simultaneously. The more descriptive animal portraits allow me to study surface and texture and discover something about the nature of each. Both approaches to developing my images depend on many layers of color chalk and charcoal. I find that power resides in the

immediacy of the paradox.
